Getting a new PDA

Equality is getting me a PDA. Its ordered and in the mail. Its fast, and has lots of super features. I had one for about a year, but some one went into my unlocked car and relieved it from me about a year ago. It was a low end Handspring and I found it pretty useful, although not particularly essential. I think I'll find the new one no more important, but perhaps more useful and fun.

I'm reading reports though that PDA's might be reaching the end of the line. Laptops are geting lighter, and cell phones are getting smarter. My own cell phone has most of the functiuonality of of my old Handspring, if it weren't so dificult to key in data, I might forgo the new PDA, but I'm a sucker for techy toys and this looks like fun. Hopefully it will be help with blogging, I'm hopping to get a good aggrigator for it, and making notes while I'm away from a computer might be a big help. The new PDA is WiFi capable and should be compatable with my home network. Kuff's article aboutWi-Fi on the highway is interesting and hopefully Texas will be able to offer free wireless connections on the hiway. I am amazed at how much money they get get for a Wi-Fi connection at Starbucks. it cost more than a month to connect in a coffee house than it cost fore my DSL or a cable connection. I don't believe I'm going to be able to count on many free WiFi connections while I'm on the road.

The PDA is using a Microsoft OS, maybe that should frightem me. The software venders seem just as mercenary as Microsoft. My Handspring had lots of free software available. Not much is for free for this MS handheld. On the bright side this thing play MP3's I'm pretty excited about that.
