Al-Qaida Staging at Northern Mexican Border

I caught Rep. Culberson on KTRH telling a rather disturbing tale. Apparrently he is going to anyone who will listen.

An al-Qaida operative who was on the FBI's terrorist watch list was recently captured near the Mexican border, housed in a Texas jail and turned over to federal agents, Rep. John Culberson, R-Texas, said on Friday.

"A confirmed al-Qaida terrorist, an Iraqi national, was held in the Brewster County jail," Rep. Culberson told ABC Radio host Sean Hannity. "He was captured in Mexico. This was within the last six weeks. He was turned over to the FBI."

The Texas Republican said he obtained the stunning information about the terrorist's capture "from the sheriffs who were directly involved.

"In fact, one was the sheriff who incarcerated him in the Brewster County jail [and who] confirmed this as well," he explained. The same sheriff also confirmed "that this guy is on the FBI's al-Qaida list," he added.

What is disturbing is that the FBI is secretly holding him and has just disapeared. I understand that the FBI might not want to face public scrutiny in their interigation methods and what they have found, but it seems pretty wierd that they are keeping it so quiet that they have someone that is on their most wanted list, and that they are keeping secret what seems to be a clear threat to the American people. What is Al-Qaida doing at our border? It seems as though we have heard about vague threats about our security at our southern border, but its all been hypothetical. This sounds like its a real threat. It will be interesting to see if the MSM picks up on this story. Rep. Culberson also mentioned another story, that the MSM hasn't picked up much regarding an armed standoff at the border.

The border incident occurred Thursday evening when Border Patrol agents attempted to pull over a dump truck on Interstate 10 in Hudspeth County, Texas. The driver fled from the agents, exiting the freeway and driving toward the Rio Grande which runs within 2 miles of the interstate in this portion of West Texas.

The driver abandoned the truck after it became stuck in the river bed, escaping into Mexico.

Agents called for reinforcement from the Texas state troopers and Hudspeth County sheriff and began unloading the haul – estimated to have been nearly 3 tons – when everything changed.

Officers "started to retrieve the bundles when the armed subjects appeared," said Agent Ramiro Cordero, Border Patrol spokesman.

According to Hudspeth County Chief Deputy Mike Doyal, the dump truck driver returned with armed men, some of whom drove "official looking vehicles with overhead lights." Some of those armed, Doyal told the El Paso Times, appeared to be Mexican soldiers in uniform with military weapons.

"It's a very serious incident," Doyal said. "We are very fortunate ... no one got hurt. Everyone had the presence of mind not to cause an international incident, or start shooting."

This was an armed confrontation! Things have gotten out of control. I can't get excited about most illegal aliens, and I don't worry to much about whether the next door neighbors gardener has a green card, but there is this little matter of security, and armed confrontations at our border don't get the same attention that a missing blond teenager gets in our MSM. Whats wrong here?
