Denver Votes to Legalize Pot.

The Denver Post informs us that the Denver voted by a narrow margin tho legalize up to 1 ounce of marijuana. The only catch is that it is that pot is still illegal throughout all of Colorado.

Denver residents Tuesday voted to legalize possession of small amounts of marijuana, but the state attorney general said the vote was irrelevant because state law will still be enforced.

The measure passed 54 percent to 46 percent.

I always thought that a 54 to 46 percent was concidered a decent victory. The politicing of SAFER a Marijuana advocacy group has upset a few people with their SAFER slogans.

Similar municipal measures were passed in two other states (California and Oregon, I think...)

In one state, police continued to prosecute marijuana "offenders" under state law, while in the other, police were more responsive to the will of the people, and tended to look the other way.

Of course, as long as pot is considered a controlled dangerous substance at a federal level (Thanks Mr. Nixon!) local reforms won't amount to much more than an opinion poll.

Eventually however, it is likely that most people will realize that 300+ Billion Dollar War on Drugs is ineffective and counter productive. The question is, will our Nanny-in-Our-Pants federal government respond.
