The Votes are In.

Its been fun, 17 % of the district voters voted for me. 83% voted for Craig Eiland. I wish Craig well. I will talk to him later and offer my congratulations. I don't feel bad about it. I didn't run an active campain, but I explained my views to whoever would listen. Craig didn't have to put much money and effort to beat me. He understood that I as Libertarian would only be able to draw so many votes.

Lampson beat out Shelly Sekula-Gibbs. Smithers placed a distant 3rd. The important thing to notice here is that Lampson won with more than 50% of the votes in a 3 way race. Its a shame. The Republicans should have gotten behind Smithers, instead they pulled up Gibbs a political hack who has no roots in the district.

The Republicans got what they deserved. The district gets Lampson.

Lampson's victory becomes a part of the Republican downfall in Congress. while some folks are blaming Bush on this revolt. I think its pretty clear that Tom Delay is really the one responsible for the fall of the Republican party in Congress. The funny thing is that Tom's apologist don't seem to be able to connect the dots and understand that they were cause.

It is a wonderful place the State of denial.

Dude, I want to correct an error you made in this piece.

Dr. Shelley Sekula-Gibbs have roots in the district. She has been a resident of the Clear Lake area of the district for over two decades. She has practiced medicine in the district for over two decades. What is your definition of "roots" that you can claim she lacked roots in the district?

Now I'll be the first to agree with you that more consideration should have been given to endorsing Bob Smither. I tried to get him invited into the meeting that night in Pearland, but was overruled. And I did so despite having endorsed Shelley and worked actively for months to get her the nomination. But in the end, I do not believe there was any significant chance of Bob Smither getting that endorsement, given his ties to Lampson.

I stand corrected on Shelley Sekula Gibbs' roots. My mistake I associate her with Houston and the city Council., and that the district does stretch far northeast into Clear Lake and Clear Lake is Houston.

I believe that Smithers as a Libertarian would have represented Republicans in that district a whole lot better than either Shelley or Lampson. Shelly as an interim is proving to be a real embarrassment to both Republicans and Texans with her staffing issues and her failure to understand the importance of team work. Especially within ones own office.

I will also concede that a Republican endorsement of Smithers would not have resulted in a shoe-in for Smithers at least someone would have had a chance of beating Lampson. Shelley never stood a chance as a write in.
There is nothing new about Politics over principles. Hopefully Republicans will put up a stronger slate in 2008, maybe even find someone that will run for the seat that I ran for.

Neither of us are going enjoy having Lampson as Congressman. 2008 won't get here fast enough.
